Join members of The House Theatre to explore the popular world of the "Wizard of Oz." We'll act, dance and sing our way through our favorite moments in the story. Work with members of The House Theatre to create and act out your own superhero character. We'll study the greats from "Superman" to "The Incredibles" and perform a tale of tremendous heroism by the end of the week. Bring a cape!! Wear comfortable clothes. Snack will be provided. August 23-27 9:00am-12:00pm Grades: JK-SK Member/Non-Member: $150/$190 Fun Club: CHICAGO FUN FEST! Calling all Fun Clubbers! If you were in Fun Club during the past year, or are planning to join in the Fall, sign up for a week of CHICAGO FUN FEST with us at the Menomonee Clubhouse! Learn about the city we live in and love as you take special walking trips, make fabulous Chicago-inspired art and cuisine, hear Chicago books at story time and more! Five fun-filled days to launch you into the summer while developing you’re appreciation of Chicago. Please bring a bookbag and NUT FREE lunch or snack each day. June 14-18 9:30-11:30am One-Acts Play One: Learn and practice stage presence, public speaking, diction, and ensemble work as you and your class present the work of a kid friendly poet. In past years, we have done Silverstein, Nesbitt, and Gaiman…fast paced, fun and challenging; we have something for every age/comfort level! Play Two: Act in or run a play with a moral, or lesson, as you study ethics in theatre, the nature of tragedy and why theatre can be used for good (or not!)…in past years, we have performed adaptations of "The Hundred Dresses", and "Chrysanthemum". Play Three: Act in or run a play that is just plain silly as you learn about comedy, improvisation, and the joy of doing plays as opposed to works! Past classes have performed adaptations of "Once Upon A Cool Motorcycle Dude" and "The Stinky Cheese Man". ALL students are cast in both on-stage and back-stage roles as they prepare for their final collaboration on Friday afternoon. Excellent for new or experienced theatre students, this fast-paced class emphasizes real theater skills and tools. Please bring a book bag and a NUT FREE lunch. Ever wonder how to look tough while dancing down a New York street? Dying to try to explain popularity to a less-than-fortunate magical friend? Perhaps you would enjoy scrubbing floors like an orphan while doing crazy choreography with an old mop? If you answered, "Why, yes!" to any of those questions, this class is for you! Learn scenes and songs from past and present musicals as we study the choreography, script, and music of each one…and collaborate with your peers to create a fun-filled show for your friends and family! ALL students are cast in both on-stage and back-stage roles as they prepare for their final collaboration on Friday afternoon.
